Welcome back to the podcast. This is the third episode, but it's also the final episode as far as going over Melania's book, because next week is the inauguration, and then we will go straight into current news and events with the First Lady, melania. My name is Carol. Welcome to the podcast. As we finish up the last portion of Melania's self-titled book, melania, I will guide you through some of the chapters I enjoyed the most, but we will also briefly summarize a few of the chapters. This is the last episode regarding her book before we have the inauguration on January 20th, so let's get started as we pick up with Chapter 10, titled my Husband the President. This chapter offers a layered narrative of the first inauguration day that she and Donald enjoyed back in. What 2016? 17. Gather the historic weight of the occasion, her observations of political theater and her own personal experience, particularly her role as a fashion icon under the world's scrutiny.
Speaker 1:Melania begins by reflecting on the immense pressure she felt as the incoming first lady. Every detail of her appearance was carefully planned and would be dissected endlessly by the media and public. For the swearing-in ceremony, she chose a pale blue ensemble, and we all remember this. It was designed by Ralph Lauren and it was a nod to timeless elegance and her commitment to supporting American designers. But it was just fabulous. I mean the long blue gloves, I mean hello. And her matching, oh, her matching. Milano Blahnik. Come on, it was just outstandingly. I mean timeless. On, it was just outstandingly. I mean timeless, classic beauty. The structured coat and matching gloves drew comparison to Jacqueline Kennedy. A deliberate choice meant to invoke a sense of classic first lady grace, and she nailed it. Milani describes feeling both proud and slightly anxious, knowing that her every move and every hemline would be interpreted as symbolic. At the Capitol luncheon, her attire shifted to a more subdued but equally refined look. She selected a tailored white sheath dress by Hervé Pierre, paired with a matching coat. Paired with a matching coat. The minimalist design allowed her to blend into the formal setting while maintaining her signature sophistication. As she recounts the luncheon, she notes how her fashion choices were as much about diplomacy as style, serving as a silent statement of poise amidst the political tension in the room.
Speaker 1:When the day turned to evening, the festivities transitioned to the inaugural balls. Ooh, fun, fun. Each required its own distinct ensemble. For the first ball, melania chose a stunning off-the-shoulder white gown, also designed by Hervé Pierre. I don't know if I'm pronouncing his name correctly. The dress featured a sleek column silhouette with a subtle slit and a red ribbon cinched at the waist, adding a pop of color. She recalls how she wanted the gown to feel modern yet understated, reflecting her personality while staying appropriate for the gravity of the occasion. At the second ball, she opted for a shimmering gold gown by Reem Aikra. Reem Aikra. This dress, with its intricate beading and fluid movement, felt celebratory, a way to acknowledge the joy of the evening while maintaining her role as the global style ambassador.
Speaker 1:Melania describes the surreal experience of dancing with Donald in front of thousands of guests and cameras, knowing the image would be immortalized in history and indeed it was. Despite the glamour of the evening, melania admits that the day's events left her physically and emotionally drained. I guess so Wouldn't it on anybody. She highlights the juxtaposition of her outward composure embodied in her meticulously curated wardrobe yes, I mean, because if you look good, you got to feel good and the inner chaos of navigating such a monumental moment. The gowns, she explains, were more than just fashion statements. They were her armor. Yes, I understand this. A way to project strength and grace in a world that demanded perfection. And yes, you know, we do demand perfection. As she looks back on that day, melania ties her fashion choices to her broader experience as First Lady A balancing act of tradition and individuality, formality and warmth, all under the relentless glare of public scrutiny. Through her thoughtful reflection, the chapter offers readers a deeper understanding of what it meant for her to step into such a visible historic role, not just as a political figure, but as a woman in the global spotlight.
Speaker 1:Chapter 11, the House that History Built. In Chapter 11 of her memoir, melania Trump offers readers a deep dive into the inner workings of her role as First Lady, with a particular focus on the White House itself. This chapter is a rich tapestry of anecdotes, history and personal insights, accompanied by 32 pages of glossy, high-quality photographs that bring her story to life. Melania begins by discussing the protocols every First Lady follows when it comes to White House renovations and decor. Each new administration is afforded a budget to personalize certain areas of the residence, particularly the private quarters used by the First Family. However, she reveals that her own efforts were hindered early on due to delays in accessing key information from the outgoing Obama team. While she doesn't dwell on the reasons behind this, melania expresses frustration at being unable to begin planning as early as she would have liked. As a result, much of her first year as First Lady was spent navigating between her homes in Washington DC, new York City and Mar-a-Lago. She recalls the delicate balancing act of managing her responsibilities in each place. While she worked on selecting schools for Barron in DC, she also ensured he maintained ties to his friends and familiar routines. Melania fondly remembers hosting Barron and his friends at the White House, watching their awe as they explored its iconic rooms and corridors. It was important to her, she notes, to make the historic residence feel like a home, not just a symbol of power.
Speaker 1:The chapter delves deeply into the White House itself, showcasing Melania's fascination with history and architecture. She describes her thorough research into its rooms and traditions, and she shares vivid details about her renovation projects. While certain public spaces, such as in the East Wing, required only minor updates, she and her team focused extensively on the private family quarters. These included redesigning the bedrooms, living areas and private dining rooms to create a more welcoming and modern environment for family and friends. One highlight of the chapter is Melania's account of the family's private retreat within the White House a serene set of rooms where they could relax away from the public eye. She speaks warmly of choosing decor that balanced elegance with comfort, blending modern elements with timeless pieces to honor the home's historic nature. She also worked on spaces specifically tailored to Barron, ensuring he had areas where he could unwind and feel at home amidst the formality of his new surroundings.
Speaker 1:Melania's attention to detail extended beyond the family's quarters. She describes overseeing updates to the historic state dining room, ensuring the renovations preserved its grandeur while improving functionality for hosting dignitaries and events. She also took on smaller personal projects, such as refreshing the decor in the Vermeil room and the library, refreshing the decor in the Vermeil room and the library Throughout the chapter. The photograph serves as a stunning accomplishment to Melania's descriptions. Readers can see the transformation she spearheaded, before and after shots of the family living quarters, intimate photos of Barron and his friends exploring the White House and behind-the-scenes glimpses of the renovation process. The images also capture Melania's style sleek, understated and always mindful of the building's rich history.
Speaker 1:As the chapter comes to a close, milani reflects on the significance of her work. To her, the White House wasn't just a residence or an office. It was a living museum, a piece of America's history that she was honored to care for and enhance. She acknowledges the weight of the responsibility, but also the privilege of leaving her own mark on a place that will forever belong to the nation that will forever belong to the nation. The chapter opens up with the Governor's Ball in February, one of the first formal events of the new administration. Melania describes the immense pressure to set the tone for their White House a blend of sophistication and warmth. For the evening, she chose a sleek black gown by Hervé Pierre, emphasizing simplicity and timelessness. The state dining room was transformed into a dazzling space, complete with lush floral arrangements and ambient lighting that cast a golden glow over the proceedings. She recounts the thrill of greeting governors and their spouses, ensuring every guest felt welcomed and appreciated.
Speaker 1:March brought the excitement of preparing the White House Easter egg roll, one of the most cherished annual traditions. Blani explains how she approached the event, with a focus on making it magical for children while honoring its history. She worked closely with her staff to organize games, crafts and live entertainment on the South Lawn. She finally recalls Barron's delight in helping select the colors and designs for the commemorative wooden eggs given to participants. For Melania, the day was not just about hosting. It was about fostering joy and connections for families from all walks of life.
Speaker 1:As spring turned to summer, the demands of diplomacy took center stage. One of the highlights was hosting President Emmanuel Macron of France and his wife Brigitte for a state visit in April. Melania immersed herself in every detail, from the state dinner menu to the table settings and the entertainment lineup. She chose the theme a tribute to friendship, reflecting on the soft hues of the decor and carefully selected American wines served alongside French cuisine. Melania shares her admiration for Brigitte Macron, describing their candid conversations as mutual respect, despite their different backgrounds.
Speaker 1:The fall brought a shift in focus as Melania began planning her first Christmas in the White House oh, and we all remember that, don't we? And I personally loved it All right, a task she took to heart. She reflects on the creative process of choosing the year's theme Time-Honored Traditions, which celebrated the rich history of the White House holiday decor. She oversaw every aspect, from the selection of the towering fir trees for the blue room to the handcrafted ornaments that adorn the halls. The East Wing featured a gold star family tree honoring fallen soldiers, a deeply personal tribute that resonated with her.
Speaker 1:Bellani recalls the joy and exhaustion of those first 12 months a year, filled with late nights, endless meetings and the constant pressure to balance tradition with her own vision. She was determined to leave her mark on each event, ensuring every detail, from the menus to the centerpieces, reflected the dignity of the presidency and the warmth of the First lady. This chapter is interspersed with poignant moments that showcase her humanity. She describes her quiet pride when Barron joined her at the Easter egg roll, her nervousness before the first toast at the state dinner and the awe she felt standing beneath the sparkling Christmas lights of the Grand Foyer, knowing she had helped bring the season to life for countless visitors. In the closing pages, melania reflects on how her first year at the White House taught her the art of balancing the weight of tradition with the demands of modern life. Through diplomacy, celebration and remembrance, she embraced her role as First Lady, transformed the White House into not just a residence of power, but a home where history, family and hope intertwined.
Speaker 1:Chapter 12 is a vivid journey through the rhythms of life in the White House, a testament to Melania's dedication to upholding its legacy while adding her unique flair. For readers, it's an invitation to experience the grandeur, intimacy and significance of her inaugural year in America's most iconic home. Now we move on to where she talks about her Be Best campaign a vision for the nation's children. Melania Trump takes readers on a journey through the creation and impact of her signature initiative, be Best. While the chapter primarily focused on the campaign's efforts to address issues like online safety, well-being in the opioid crisis, it also reveals the deeply personal experiences that inspired her work. None more painful than the seeing her young son, baron, dragged into the harsh spotlight of public scrutiny.
Speaker 1:Melania begins by sharing how the idea for Be Best took root in her observations as a mother. She speaks candidly about the influence of technology on children's lives, noting how online platforms had become both a source of connection and a breeding ground for cruelty. These reflections were shaped in part by her own experience as a parent of a child in the public eye. One incident she recounts in vivid details Rosie O'Donnell's controversial tweet speculating that Barron might be autistic. Melania recalls her shock and anger when she first learned of the baseless claim, which had been shared widely and sparked a wave of unfounded rumors. She describes the heartbreak of watching her son, then just 10 years old, become the subject of public gossip and ridicule. Barron is not autistic, she asserts, and the intrusion into his life was not only false but deeply hurtful. Determined to protect her son, melania took swift action, enlisting the help of her attorneys, to demand an apology and the removal of the video that fueled the rumors. While O'Donnell later apologized, the incident left a lasting impression on Melania. She writes about the helplessness she felt as a mother, knowing she could not shield Barron from the harsh realities of public life. This experience became a catalyst for her focus on online safety as one of the pillars of Be Best. Melania explains that she wanted to ensure no child or parent had to ensure the kind of pain her family experienced.
Speaker 1:The campaign emphasized the importance of teaching children kindness and responsibility in their digital interactions, as well as urging tech companies to create safer online environments. Throughout the chapter, Melania reflects on her personal experiences and formed her approach to the campaign. She visited schools to speak directly with students about cyberbullying and its impact, often drawing her own story to connect with them. She recalls meeting children who had been victims of online harassment and feeling a deep sense of purpose and advocating for their well-being. In addition to online safety, be Best addressed other critical issues affecting children, such as the opioid crisis and mental health. Melania recounts her visits to hospitals, schools, treatment centers, where she met families grappling with addiction and its devastating effects. She collaborated with health care organizations to distribute resources and emphasized the importance of prevention through education.
Speaker 1:This chapter is interwoven with antidotes from her travels, including her trips abroad, to promote the campaign. Melania describes her visit to Africa, where she spent time with children in Ghana, kenya and other nations, seeing firsthand the universal challenges they faced. These moments, she writes, reaffirmed her belief in the global relevance of Be Best and its message of hope and empowerment. Despite the campaign's successes, melania does not shy away from addressing its critics. She acknowledges the irony of advocating for kindness and respect online, while her husband was often accused of divisive rhetoric on social media. However, she insists that Be Best was her own project, independent of politics and rooted in her values as a mother and advocate for children. I don't know if you've noticed this or not, but Melania pretty much is her own woman, even though she's married to the most powerful man and, quite frankly, the most iconic man, with his own strong personal opinions. And they're married and they're in love and it works. So the chapter includes, with a reflection on the legacy of Be Best, melania expresses pride in the partnerships formed, the resources distributed and the conversation sparked by the initiative. For her, the campaign was more than a program. It was a mission born of personal pain and a deep desire to protect and uplift children.
Speaker 1:Chapter 13 is a heartfelt exploration of Melania Trump's journey as an advocate for children, shaped by both her experiences in the public eye and her unwavering commitment to making a difference. It is a testament to her resilience and determination to use her platform for a cause she holds dear. Chapter 14, called Going Global, obviously takes us along with her on her worldly travels as First Lady, and obviously one of the longer chapters. Now, remember I said I was going to kind of summarize the rest of these chapters so we can move along, because this is going to be quite long. So we're going to summarize these last few chapters and then we're going to end it with the you know, the big iconic not iconic, but the big, oh, the big rally in Butler. Yeah, we're going to end it with that.
Speaker 1:So chapter 15, titled Moments of Crisis, is from hurricanes to mass shootings and the infamous jacket she wore. She talks about the border here with separating children from parents, which you know she made it known to Trump. She did not like that. Chapter 16 is simply called 2020, and she talks about the impeachments pandemics, a little bit about the BLM riots. Chapter 17 talks about her fostering the future when they leave the White House and facing her future as a private citizen. Again brings up cancel culture and how it affected her personally, and she brings up the FBI raiding her home at Mar-a-Lago in this chapter. Now chapter 18 is the end and is titled Good Luck and Be Safe.
Speaker 1:Melania Trump reflects on the harrowing experience of the assassination attempt on her husband during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on July 13, 2024. She describes the distressing moment when she learned of the attack, her immediate concern for his safety and the relief upon confirming his survival. Melania emphasizes the profound impact this event had on her, highlighting the vulnerability of public figures and the personal toll such incidents can take on their families. In promoting her memoir, melania has called for transparency regarding the incident, stating we need to uncover the truth about the assassination attempt. This chapter offers an intimate and candid portrayal of Melania's personal response to a life-threatening event, providing readers with a deeper understanding of her resilience and the challenges faced by those in the public eye. And that is the end of this episode.
Speaker 1:So I thank you for tuning in, and next time we talk will be about the inauguration and everything that went on during that day. Maybe I might do a live broadcast. I don't know, maybe I don't know yet we're going to be out of town, so I don't know what the setup is going to be yet. Looking forward to it, though, I predict she's going to wear white. I think she's going to wear winter white for the inauguration. That's what I think you know.
Speaker 1:Last time she wore that powder blue, it was just so gorgeous and beautiful. She may wear light purple, I don't know. I'm predicting winter white, or like a lilac perhaps, I don't know. That might be too light for winter, but she did wear the powder blue dress, so I don't know. We'll see. Whatever it's going to be, it's going to be beautiful. She may even wear black. I doubt it, but you never know. She might want to leave a mark and I'm predicting winter white. That's what I a suit of winter white. I think she's going to be absolutely stunning. Okay, gotta go. Thank you for listening and I hope you come back.
